New video of Nephi cruising District 6 and discussing their needs.
People who run for public office don't typically do so unless there is something they believe in and something they want to change. While I'm running for Assembly District 6 for those same reasons, I recognize that the reasons each of the other candidates are running are just as valid and important as mine. None of us are wrong about the things we want to change. So how do we make a decision about who to support?
If there is one thing I've learned after 30-years of political involvement in Nevada, it's that some candidates have passion, and some have good ideas. In the world of politics, a candidate who is well-meaning can get into office and suddenly their peers change. With that change comes a very powerful expectation of how that person will now behave in office. They are forced to be a "team player" on a team the people who voted for them don't even know about. So what do we do? Why am I any different?
It took me 50-years to realize that believing in Republicans was like believing in Santa Claus. Before you Democrats start laughing, the tooth fairy isn't real either. The truth is, we've all been fooled. Party politics is as dangerous to America today as segregation was in the civil rights era. In fact, it's the same exact thing; a tool designed to keep us divided so we don't see what is really going on.
I have been deeply involved in the inner-workings of campaign strategy and political ops. Even knowing as much I do, I was still blinded by the idea that I was right and the other side was wrong. Once I was open to the truth that we are BOTH wrong, my whole life changed. Suddenly I saw things clearer than ever before. Lately, the song Amazing Grace has taken on a whole new meaning for me because I realized that I have been working to pull the rug out from under, not Democrats, but my fellow Americans.
I will not ever be in that position again.
I never envisioned myself running for office because, frankly, I didn't want to have to behave. I wanted to say what I wanted, do what I wanted, and not have to apologize or be on my "best behavior." I didn't want to have to be someone I'm not. But why do I have to be false to serve my community? Why do I keep thinking I have to play THEIR game in order to be IN the game? The truth is, I don't. None of us do. It's as simple as telling them to fuck off.
So... say it with me. Fuck off. If you vote for me, that will be a phrase you hear from me on a regular basis. I know that once someone gets into office, suddenly they are expected to give a half-assed thank you to the people who voted them in, and then run off into the sunset with their new pals. They forget where they came from. They forget who got them where they are. They forget what they promised.
If you send me to the Nevada State Legislature, I will not be fighting FOR you. I will be fighting BESIDE you. I am not one of them. I never will be. I just want the freedom to live my life; to earn a living based on my effort; to do good where I can; and to enjoy as much happiness as humanly possible while I'm here on Earth.
When I get to the State Legislature, I may wear a red name tag, but understand that I will tell any Republican to go to hell if they interfere with our freedom. It is my promise to you; I will slap ANYONE that gets in the way of your freedom.
